In 2011 the Welsh Government announced its Programme for Government.This action plan has been described by Welsh Government as their road map for this Assembly term.This action plan contained a chapter termed Welsh Homes looking at high level aspirations to improve homes and housing.This set out the Assembly Government’s commitment to
Increasing the supply and choice of housing;
Improving the quality of homes; and
Improving housing services and support.
The document below sets out Blaenau Gwent County Borough Council’s policy in relation to private sector renewal, and the provision of financial assistance and other forms of assistance that the Council is able to offer qualifying residents. This document has been developed in response to the Regulatory Reform (Housing Assistance) (England and Wales) Order 2002.
This policy will support both the Welsh Government and Council’s strategic priorities and as a result, the Authority will seek to address the following key priorities:
Support the elderly and people with a disability to live independently in their own homes;
Support the repair and improvement of existing homes;
Reduce fuel poverty and increase energy efficiency;
Monitor and improve conditions in the private rented sector;
Reduce the number of long term empty Properties.
